The activated partial thromboplastin time test measures the time it takes for blood to clot, evaluating the intrinsic coagulation pathway. We use the Coagulometric technique to ensure accurate and reliable results.
The sample can be citrated blood or plasma/citrate. In both cases, the initial 3 mL from the venipuncture must be discarded. Send without centrifuging at a temperature between 2 - 8° C or centrifuge and transfer to a plastic tube, preferably frozen. The sample must not show hemolysis, lipemia, or jaundice.

Option 1: Primary tube: Citrated blood 1 mL (9:1 ratio), discard initial 3 mL from venipuncture, send without centrifuging and at a temperature between 2 - 8° C. No hemolysis, no lipemia, no jaundice. Option 2: Secondary tube: Plasma/citrate 1 mL (9:1 ratio), discard initial 3 mL from venipuncture, send centrifuged and transferred to a plastic tube, preferably frozen. No hemolysis, no lipemia, no jaundice.
